5 Tips to Make Time for Fitness!
We all have all heard it before or felt this way. I don’t have time to work out. I don’t have time to go to the gym. I wish I had more time in the day to work out or go to the gym. How do people go in the morning or after work? The list goes on and on. I promise you are not the only one that feels this way. Between the many working professionals, business owners or men and women with families. We all wish we had more time in the day for multiple reasons. What I can tell you, it is possible to make time to get a workout in or even go to the gym. Here are just a few options you can try:
#1: Make a Schedule: Treat this like any other appointment. Block out time in your calendar for whatever time you need. If you work at home, block time out to either workout at home or leave and go to your nearby community or local gym. If you work at an office and have an hour break. Use that time to go for a walk or, if possible, go to the gym. Treat blocking time out like any other work meeting or doctor’s appointment, one that you cannot miss!
#2 Make it a Quickie: Short 30 min workouts are just as useful. High intensity, circuit workouts are great ways to implement full body workouts so you can hit everything within a short time. Choose between 4-5 exercises, 4-5 rounds of 30-45 seconds each. Take a 1–2-minute rest between rounds and you have a solid workout!
#3 Get up and Move: If your job allows or if you work from home, make sure you get up out of your chair and walk around. Give yourself time to stretch or a quick walk to get your blood flowing. If you work in the office, find a friend or office buddy to get up and move around with you. You can hold each other accountable to get up and move, even if it is for 3-5 minutes.
#4 Be Proactive: Put on your favorite show or movie and do a workout. I would recommend not putting on a new movie or show but one that you have seen before or doesn’t involve a lot of focus. That way, you can watch something to distract you a little bit while you work out. If you have a treadmill or stationary bike at home and would rather read or listen to a podcast, these are also great options.
#5 Make it a Family Event: Get the kids or family involved! Go on a bike ride, a long walk, the park or just your backyard! Getting the family involved and having your kids watch you be active, is more incentive for them to be active and “workout” along with you. It is always more fun when you get the family involved in activities! It doesn’t need to be elaborate, just enough to get you and the family doing something active together!
Finding that time for yourself or getting the family involved are great ways to form healthy habits that will continue long after that one workout or activity. Give these steps a try and see how it impacts your day. One step might be better over the others or you might find success in multiple steps. Regardless, give each one of them a try and see how they fit within your busy schedule. Try not to get discouraged if one or more of these don’t work the first time. It might take some time to adjust or possibly that one of the options is better for one day or another. Try multiple options on different days and see what works best for you. It might surprise you at how much time you might actually have within your day.
